Description:
The Auberge le Dauphin is a lovely restaurant in a traditional Norman house in the village of Le Breuil-en-Auge, in the valley of the river Touques in Calvados.
The cuisine concentrates on the use of local produce, the region being known for its dairy products, especially cheese, apples and cider and Calvados spirit but it also celebrates the inventiveness of the chef, Régis Lecomte.
There is a wide selection of Calvados as a digestif following your meal. One of the best of these is from the Chateau de Breuil in the village.
The ambiance is one of quiet, rural calm in a beamed restaurant with a picture of Queen Elizabeth II who had lunch here in 1987 whilst on a private visit to the local thoroughbred stud farms. The photograph is accompanied by her personal letter of thanks for the welcome she received. A more recent visitor was the Belgian king.
