Description:
Guide 2 Normandy takes a look at property in Calvados, Lower Normandy with our Calvados Property Guide. Calvados is a popular destination for British expatriates looking to buy property in Normandy. The area is known for its apple orchards and its cider and Calvados distilled spirit; it is also known for its Norman architecture and half-timbered farmhouses with wooden beams inside and out.
Property prices in Calvados have been stagnant over the past two years but now, the market is showing signs of improvement. In Lisieux for example the average price of a typical house is about 153,000 Euros, which is unchanged over the past year. Apartments, on the other hand, have risen by about 2.5% over the same period. Lisieux is a medium-sized town in the centre of the Calvados department and has a population of about 23,000. The town is well-known for its connections with St Thérèse whose relics were recently made accessible to people in the UK through a religious pilgrimage.
Like Caen and Bayeux, Lisieux, is one of the more affordable places to live in Calvados. Other towns such as Deauville and Honfleur tend to be regarded as rather 'chic' and properties are therefore sought-after especially by Parisians seeking second homes; consequently prices are higher in and around those towns.
