Description:
According to Cabinet Lebourg of Gournay-en-Bray and Forges-les-Eaux in Seine-Maritime(76) Upper Normandy, there is little activity in the local property market in the region. Prices are down by some twenty-five percent since the heady days of two or more years ago. This means of course that there are some very fine houses on the market at what may prove to be bargain prices.
M J-C Lebourg of Cabinet Lebourg said that buyers from the UK and other English speaking countries such as the Netherlands are thin on the ground. Even Parisians are not buying even though Upper Normandy is a popular region for Parisians with second homes in the country.
M. Lebourg said that the British are sellers rather than buyers. However the pound has recently staged a modest recovery against the Euro and if confidence improves both in the UK and other European countries over the next twelve months or so, then today’s French property prices may look very attractive in hindsight.
There has always been a considerable difference in house prices in the UK as compared to France and that difference, whereby French prices are considerably lower, is likely to be further accentuated as prices in the south and east of the UK, at least, have not dropped to the extent that they have here in Upper Normandy. French country cottages also usually have a fair extent of terrain attached, often 1000sq m or more. This is another advantage to be had when buyers are looking for space in this relatively unpopulated and rural region.
