Tribute to 'Camille' on Rouen's Boieldieu bridge
The construction of an installation by Belgian artist, Arne Quinze, has started on the pont Boieldieu in Rouen. The installation entitled 'Camille', is a homage to Camille Pissarro and Camille, the wife of Claude Monet.
The installation has impressive proportions - 100 metres long - and represents a forest in wood. It forms part of Rouen's impressionist festivities which continue through the summer and will be accessible to visitors from the beginning of July to the end of August. The bridge is, of course, closed to vehicles.
Known for his monumental installations, Arne Quinze design represents a giant suspended garden where visitors can walk and meditate. The work is a homage to both Camille, the wife of Monet, and to Camille Pisarro who painted the bridge several times.
The installation comprises almost 110 tonnes of materials. All the wood being used will be recycled after the event for use in the construction of new buildings.
