Rouen - Final port of call for Jeanne d’Arc
The helicopter carrier, Jeanne d'Arc, like her famous namesake, has arrived at her final port of call, Rouen. The ship will stay in the town until 25 May when she will set off on her final voyage to Brest to be disarmed and broken up. Her arrival at Brest is scheduled for 27 May.
Originally known as the Résolue, the Jeanne d’Arc, was built between 1959 and 1961 and entered service in 1964. In recent times, she has served as an officer training ship. It is understood that the bow of the Jeanne d'Arc may in the future be installed under Rouen's Pont Flaubert.
To pay homage to the ship's final visit, the last of the 19th century French commercial sailing ships, the Belem is visiting the town and will open to the public.
