Over 50 Fire fighters from seven centres in Orne and Calvados were called to a serious factory blaze at Athis de l'Orne at 1am on the morning of Wednesday 31 March. Despite all efforts, the crews were unable to save a building at the 'Usine de la Martinique' of Lemoine, a manufacturer of cotton buds. The origins of the fire are still unknown.

As a result of the fire, the 150 people who are normally employed at the site, have found themselves without work.

Lemoin has around 250 employees at four sites in Orne.
