Description:
This Saturday (27 March) marks the tenth Journée Nationale du Fromage - an event created to support the continued production of real cheese made in the traditional way from untreated milk (lait cru).
Under pressure from the large industrial groups, the amount of cheese made from lait cru is decreasing each year. The National Cheese Day aims to correct the balance by reminding people that real cheeses made with 'lait cru' are the best in the world. Surely, this is an essential part of the French National heritage.
For those living in dairy farming areas such as Normandy are lucky. There is still a good choice of 'real' cheese such as those produced by the Fromagerie Graindorge at Livarot. Graindorge produces Camembert AOC, Pont L’Evêque AOC and Livarot AOC at Livarot in Calvados and is supporting the National Cheese Day initiative. Check them out!
