Description:
The Conseil Régional of Lower Normandy and the Conseil Général of Calvados have issued a joint statement concerning the preservation of the rail line between Caen and Flers. A study has shown that it was possible to maintain the rail line and keep open the option to reintroduce rail traffic in the future.
At the same time, the statement spoke of the creation of a green way between Caen and Clécy while retaining the vélorail activities on the track between Val de Maizet and Thury-Harcourt and from Pont Erambourg to Tunnel des Gouttes. Work on the green way between Caen and Thury-Harcourt could start as soon as 2011.
Concerning a tourist train service and given the difficulties associated with the tunnels and the line north of Clécy, it is proposed to carry out experiments on the southern section of the line between Berjou, Pont Erambourg and Cerisy Belle Etoile. These trials could take place in 2011.
