The new LD Lines ferry, the Norman Leader, which is currently being completed in Singapore, is not now expected to be ready to enter service this summer as planned.
The ferry has been specially designed for the Le Havre-Portsmouth route and will eventually operate alongside the high speed catamaran, Norman Arrow which entered service recently offering a crossing time of 3 hours and 15 minutes. The Norman Arrow is the world’s largest diesel-powered catamaran and the first Incat 112 metre craft to operate in Europe It operates at speeds of up to 40 knots and can carry and 417 cars, or up to 195 cars and 30 freight vehicles and 1200 passengers.
The 160 metre long Norman Leader will operate at speeds of up to 21.4 knots carrying up to 90 freight vehicles or 620 cars on its three vehicle decks and 1,215 passengers.
It is expected that the conventional ferry, Côte d'Albâtre will continue to operate on the route until the Norman Leader is ready.
