Description:
Most of the 10,000 campsites in France have a rating from one to four stars.T hese are principally a guide to the services offered and the space available to campers. Four star site, for example, must offer sites of 100 square metres or more.
The starring system is managed by the Fédération Francaise de Camping et de Caravanning (FFCC), but the star rating is not necessarily a guarantee of the quality of the site. Additional pointers would be whether the campsite has been awarded the Camping Qualité mark which provides such quality guarantees as maintenance, privacy and cleanliness.
If a site has been awarded the 'Clef Verte' or 'Green Key' mark, this is an indication of low density camping and green open spaces.
When choosing a campsite you should always look for the star rating, the Camping Qualité mark and the Clef Verte mark. Obviously charges will vary according to quality but expect top pay between 35 and 50 Euros per night for a caravan on a three or four star site.
The Normandy coast has many excellent campsites like the one pictured above at La Vallée, Deauville, Calvados, Lower Normandy.
