Deauville to host European security summit
It has been announced that the resort town of Deauville is to host a European security summit between France, Germany and Russia on 18 and 19 October. The talks will bring together the leaders of the three countries Nicolas Sarkozy, Dmitri Medvedev and Angela Merkel.
According to the Elysée Palace, the summit will provide an opportunity for the three leaders to discuss in detail partnerships in all areas and in particular common security issues. It is also expected that the French President will use the occasion to discuss France’s 12 months Presidency of the G20 from November this year and the G8 from January next year. The French President has made it clear that he would like to see a common economic zone that would unite Moscow and the 27 member states of the European Union.
