Among the prettiest villages in France, Barfleur is a fishing port and seaside holiday base.
Geography
Situated at the north-eastern tip of the Cotentin Peninsula in Manche , Lower Normandy. Richard the Lionheart set sail for England from here in 1194AD.

Fishing and tourism. Barfleur is known for its mussels and oysters as well as crabs, lobsters, and prawns. There is also sea fishing especially for bass.
Culture
Paul Signac, the pointilliste painter , lived in Barfleur for several years from 1932.

Worth a Visit
The St Catherine Square is surrounded by lovely old granite houses typical of the region. The church of St Nicolas is a massive granite structure dating from the 17th century. It is quite unusual with almost a fortified aspect and dominates the village. Barfleur also has one of the tallest lighthouses in France.
Sporting & Other Activities
Being on the coast, there are opportunities for underwater diving, surf-boarding, canoeing, swimming , sailing etc. Boat trips can be organised to the Channel Islands, Calvados, Upper Normandy and England.
