Introduction
Lyons-la-Forêt is an attractive village in the Eure department in Upper Normandy. It is located in the centre of the Foret de Lyons, the largest in Normandy and one of the largest Beech forests in Europe at some 10,500 hectares.
This little town, or village, has a long history and a long association with the kings of England. In fact Henry 1st died here and Richard the Lionheart held court here. The surrounding forest has long been known for its excellent hunting. Red and roe deer, wild boar and smaller game can all be seen. This explains the areas popularity with kings.

Tourism
The village depends a lot on tourism, the attractive old Norman style houses, and the covered market in the main square. The relative wealth of the village owes much to the Parisians who have bought second homes here. Many visitors come to enjoy a drink or lunch in the market square, to visit the Sunday market or to walk, cycle or ride in the forest.
