Introduction
The museum presents the history and production of Camembert over the centuries having been set up in 1986 from an exhibition that brought together a number of objects and documents linked to the production of Camembert cheese.
The museum is the only one of its kind in France and is run by a group of volunteers. It is these volunteers that welcome visitors and draw their attention to the cheese traditions of the region and the AOC status of Camembert.
First created by Marie Harel, a farmer's wife from the village of Camembert, the Camembert has been made close to the town of Vimoutiers for centuries. It is today well known internationally.
The museum presents the life of the cheese, from the collection of the milk, through all the production stages to its distribution for consumption. Through its collection of equipment, posters and commercial documents, the museum also shows the evolution of production techniques.
To enable visitors to get the most out of their visit, there is a guide and a video in English.

The museum houses an amazing collection of cheese box labels which enables visitors to visualise the history, the places of production and methods of eating this prestigious cheese. People come from all over Europe to see this collection.
