La Solitaire du Figaro Yacht Race 2012 - Provisional Timetable

 

The provisional dates and the stages for the 2012 La Solitaire du Figaro yacht race, one of the biggest annual yachting events in France, were announced at the Paris Boat Show at the beginning of December. Once again,Normandy will feature prominently in the race with Cherbourg in Manche being the final destination. The race  has a provisional start date in early July 2012.

 

 

To avoid a clash with the 2012 London Olympics, the schedule for the 2012 Solitaire du Figaro has been brought forward to June-July rather than the race’s traditional August slot. The timetable below is provisional and dates will be confirmed by the Solitaire du Figaro race organisers in early 2012.

 

 

From 15th June participants will assemble at the port of Paimpol, north-west of Saint Brieuc on Brittany’s north coast for 10 days of sea trials. The three stage 2012 La Solitaire du Figaro will run from Sunday 24th June until Sunday 15th July. The dates for the stages and race villages along the route will be confirmed later.

 

 

First stage: a mammoth opening stage across the Bay of Biscay to the city of Gijon on the northern Spanish coast.

 

 

 

Second stage: north east across the Bay of Biscay to Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in Vendée.

 

 

 

Third stage: from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie north-west then around Finistere in Brittany towards Cherbourg in Normandy.

 

The winner in 2011 Jeremy Beyou , went on to double success in the Jaques Vabre transatlantic yacht race in November this year
